I was born and raised in Mexico City.  I received my BS in mathematics from the National University of Mexico.  Then, I had the opportunity to come to the US to study.  I landed in Columbus, Ohio in 1988.  I received my MA and PhD, both in mathematics education.  My research interests include problem solving and problem posing, use of technology, equity and access in mathematics education, culturally relevant mathematics teaching, and recruitment and retention of underserved populations in college careers.  I love solving problems, finding several ways to solve them and then reflect on how to create access to problem solving through those solutions.
