I devoted the first ten years of my teaching career to becoming great at formative assessment. I dreaded the summative assessment because I already knew exactly how my students would perform and, worse, I did not want to spend time "grading." Now, with my colleague, Meghan McGovern, I am excited to give summative assessments. They provide deeper insights than formative assessments can. I truly enjoy reading my students' responses.
